The Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XL on Sunday night, beating the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10, in front of a Terrible Towel-waving crowd that made Ford Field look like Heinz Field. It was the Steelers’ fifth Super Bowl title in six attempts, and the first in 14 years under coach Bill Cowher, who finally can say that he, like larger-than-life predecessor Chuck Noll, actually can win the big game.

And it was the final game that Bettis will ever play. In an announcement that was not unexpected but sad nonetheless, the Bus said he would retire after 13 years in the league. What more could he want? He had just won the Super Bowl in his hometown. So unless he watches a replay and decides to overturn the ruling on the field, this is the end for Bettis.
